PriceSmart (PSMT): Plenty of Growth … But at What Cost?

RSS Logo Lawrence Meyers Popular Posts: 3 Cash-Rich Stocks to Buy Now3 Legendary Names to Hold for Retirement4 Monthly Dividend Stocks for a Steady Diet of Income Recent Posts: PriceSmart (PSMT): Plenty of Growth … But at What Cost? 3 Cash-Rich Stocks to Buy Now Covered Calls: Generate $1,000 in Income With These 3 Trades View All Posts

A little-known fact about PriceSmart (PSMT): It actually merged with Costco (COST) in 1993, only to be spun back off in 1994. But I enjoy the connection, because I very much think of PSMT as the Latin American Costco.

PriceSmart185 PriceSmart (PSMT): Plenty of Growth ... But at What Cost? But is PSMT stock as attractive as Costco? Well…

All told, PSMT stock rises and falls based on the fate of the company’s 32 stores: six in Costa Rica; four each in Panama and Trinidad; three each in Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, and Colombia; two each in El Salvador and Honduras; and 1 each in Aruba, Barbados, Jamaica, Nicaragua, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. (PriceSmart also has expansion aspirations in other parts of Latin America.)

Everyone has their view about which emerging market will emerge the hardest. Various friends of mine in the investment and international communities view Latin America as the next big growth region. They are particularly excited about Costa Rica, Colombia and Brazil. I happen to agree, so any opportunity to place capital in these regions — especially with an established brand — is something I pay attention to.

PriceSmart recently reported earnings, and the market slammed PSMT stock — shares were off by about 11% and have bounced back only a bit since then. I’ll agree that PriceSmart was too expensive to buy into at the time, but PSMT’s battering appeared overdone … so, now’s a good time to revisit that thought.

For as bad as PSMT stock got beat up, though, the earnings report was actually pretty good.

PSMT Earnings

Net income rose to $28.3 million from $24.9 million last year, a 14% increase. That translated into an 8-cent-per-share analyst beat. Revenue increased 11% to $674 million, yet it fell short of analyst expectations of $678.91 million. Of course, I think it's crazy that a $4.91 million shortfall — less than 1% — would be considered such a disaster.

Gross margins decreased 19 basis points to 14.5%, but I hardly consider that to be the end of the world, either. But hey, if the market wants to discount the stock irrationally, I'm fine with that.

Top International Stocks To Watch Right Now

Let's check the overall financial picture to see if there's value here.

PSMT Financials

PriceSmart’s balance sheet looks pretty good, with about $79 million in cash and only $60 million in debt. The debt is comparably expensive, costing $5.2 million in interest annually, or about 9%. Yet that $5.2 million in the face of more than $100 million in annual net income for PSMT does not give me any reason for concern. Free cash flow has continually improved over the years, too, so there's no concern there.

Plenty of big-name mutual funds hold PSMT stock, so there's faith from the institutional community. I also love that insider holdings are at 37.5%. It means management's interests are strongly aligned with shareholders.

Bottom Line

I actually have very little problem with PSMT stock … until we actually hit the area that concerned me even before PriceSmart’s tumble: valuation.

PSMT stock is sitting around $93. FY14's projected earnings are $3.23 per share, giving PriceSmart a P/E ratio of 29. Long-term growth rate projections are at 17%, so on this basis, it's still overvalued.

The cash position isn't large enough to warrant a premium, nor is the FCF situation so overtly amazing that it earns a premium there, either.

Thus, despite now being well off its 52-week high of $126 — by a whopping 30% — PriceSmart still seems expensive to this value-driven investor.

I'm willing to pay for growth. I might even give it a 20x valuation on FY15's earnings because I like it so much.

But even then, PSMT stock would have to hit $70 to get me interested.

Back to the drawing board.

Hot Financial Companies To Own For 2015

Penn Mutual Life Insurance said Thursday that it had hit an important milestone in its work with Hearsay Social, a provider of social-media platforms, which could serve as a case study in how financial firms can rapidly and comprehensively embrace new technology.

“We have a roughly 50% adoption rate of Hearsay Social among our registered reps, and that is great for us,” said Robert Bonsall, assistant vice president of interactive marketing at Penn Mutual, in an interview. “We’ve been really pushing it.”

That’s not necessarily what some might expect would be the case for a 167-year-old insurance firm.

“It’s interesting. Companies with a long legacy of building businesses and client relations, like us, are embracing technology. We are being very progressive in how we enable advisors with tools like Hearsay Social,” Bonsall explained.

Penn Mutual worked with another social media vendor but switched to Hearsay to move “from the defensive aspect of being compliant by monitoring social media to being both compliant and engaging with consumers – playing defense and offense,” he said.

A broad-based investment into the Mexican economy either through the iShares MSCI Mexico Investable Market Index (NYSE: EWW) or the Mexico Fund (NYSE: MXF) -- a favorite of StreetAuthority analyst Amy Calistri -- are good ways to establish a position. These funds not only have exposure to the manufacturing sector, but also to energy, health care and media -- sectors that are benefiting from political reforms and a growing Mexican middle class. The Mexico Fund has a powerful incentive for investors as well in the form of a hefty 10% dividend.

Jim Powell: I like the exchange-traded funds. I really think the iShares Mexico Fund (EWW)—EWW is a way for most Americans to go. If you have specialized knowledge of Mexico, and you know companies that you wish to invest in, you certainly can. There are plenty of them, but I recommend a fund.

Some developing countries are poor bets right now, but others are very attractive. Shorter-term, The Mexico Fund (EWW) is my number one choice as the most promising country ETF for this year.

Many feel like recession still hasn't ended

The U.S. economy is finally accelerating six years after the start of the Great Recession. Housing and stock prices are rising, the unemployment rate keeps falling, and the government's budget deficit is shrinking.

So why does it feel like the recession never really ended?

While there's little sense that the U.S. economy is headed for another downturn, most forecasters expect further improvement in 2014 will be gradual. Unless and until the job market improves substantially, and higher wages drive a convincing pickup in consumer spending and demand, the lingering damage to confidence will likely keep the weakest economic recovery in memory plodding along at a frustratingly slow pace.

READY? Real economy to surface as Fed help fades

VIDEO: Flat jobless rate in '14, pro says

2014: Advisers eye concerns in year ahead

"The economy is continuing to make progress, but it also has much farther to travel before conditions can be judged normal," Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke told reporters in his final news conference as head of the 100-year-old institution.

As the evidence accumulates that the economy is beginning to heal, though, that progress is convincing enough that Fed policymakers decided to begin easing up on the central banks massive flow of cash.

There are plenty of signs that things are getting better. The latest data shows consumers are feeling more upbeat and spending more freely, in part because they have recently begun to see modest gains in wages.

The housing market continues to climb out of the deepest downturn since the Great Depression. Banks and households have written off large piles of bad debt, and lending is picking up again. Carmakers are wrapping up their best year since the financial collapse left the auto industry a government bailout away from oblivion.

Overall, the economy grew at a surprisingly strong 4.1 percent annual rate in the third quarter—the best showing in over a year.

"There is confidence that th! ere is strength in underlying demand," said Ira Kalish, chief global economist for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. "If we see more investment and more hiring by small businesses it could have a very positive impact—because small businesses historically account for the lion's share of job growth. And that's where we haven't seen strong job growth."

That sluggish job growth goes a long way to explaining why—for millions of Americans—the Great Recession never ended. While the "official" unemployment rate has fallen steadily since the summer of 2009, the improvement in the data has come largely from the ongoing wave of jobless people who have given up looking for work.

Many of them—like Mary Villalba, 65, of Centennial, Colo.—fear they may never find a job as good as the one they lost to the recession.

Since getting laid off at a mortgage company in 2007, she's done consulting and taken part-time jobs. Though still looking for full-time work, she says she's growing resigned to being underemployed.

"It's hard not to be discouraged when I compare my credentials against those of people 40 years my junior who get the job offers," she said.

Business has also been slow this year for her husband of 25 years who works for a commercial roofing company. Villalba figures their household income, which peaked around $125,000 a year before the recession, has fallen roughly in half. She doubts it will ever get back to prerecession levels. The couple's retirement savings went to pay college tuition for their three now-grown daughters. Lately she's taken on part-time work handling title closings.

"The hours can be very long and erratic and there is no steady paycheck, but it at least helps pay some of the bills," she said. The couple has cut back on dining out and groceries, and she no longer goes clothes shopping.

For millions of underemployed workers like Villalba, the bills are much harder to keep up with than they were before the Great Recession.

The belt-tightening ha! s cut int! o sales at many businesses, including Balliets, a high-end women's clothing store in Oklahoma City. Owner Bob Benham said this year's sales were flat compared to last year.

Now, after a successful store expansion in 2010, Benham has shelved plans to open a new store, because his "gut feeling is: Sit tight."

"There is a lot of waiting-and-seeing both with consumers and small retailers," he said. "And I just think there are a number of anchors creating a less-than-exuberant feeling for both of them."

Those anchors include key forces that typically help propel an economy out of a downturn.

While the housing market has perked up in the past two years, for example, new construction and existing home sales are still below prerecession levels. Credit has begun easing, but mortgages are still hard to get. And ultra-low mortgage rates have begun moving higher this year.

Home prices, meanwhile, are still well below 2006 peak levels in many parts of the country, leaving more than 10 million owners who bought at the peak owing more than their home is worth.

That lost home equity helps explain why the "wealth effect" of rising housing and stock markets, which typically spurs further economic growth, has been so muted in the recovery.

This recovery has further concentrated that dual wealth boost among the richest Americans. Because those at the top of the wealth ladder typically spend a smaller share of their income than those in middle- and lower- income households, the concentration has further dampened overall consumer spending.

Government spending has also historically been a critical force propelling past recoveries. The impact of the Great Recession was substantially dampened by bank bailouts, massive federal stimulus spending and the Federal Reserve's unprecedented, $3.2 trillion flood of cash. But government stimulus has now turned to spending cuts, and the central bank is dialing down its cash machine.

Even as the federal budget deficit is shrinking, doze! ns of sta! te and local governments are grappling with shrunken revenues and rising costs—especially those municipalities that badly underfunded their pension plans in boom times. For Americans living and working in the nation's hardest-hit local economies, the recession never ended.

Yet the economy is improving, says Adam Aronson, CEO of Arrowsight, a Mount Kisco,N.Y.-based company that sells video monitoring systems to help improve safety and productivity in hospitals, factories and restaurants. He thinks, however, that businesses will hire workers and buy new equipment only if they feel confident they will make more money. There's little appetite for risk.

"They'll move, but only when they feel highly confident that there's a strong return," he said. "They're not as willing to just roll things out on a hunch like they might have been six or seven years ago. Right now it's a 'prove it to me' kind of environment that I'm seeing."

Ted S. Warren/APAmazon CEO Jeff Bezos introduced the Amazon Fire Phone last June. The world's leading online retailer is feeling pretty mortal these days. Amazon.com (AMZN) saw its shares slump 22 percent last year. History is on the side of those long Amazon. The stock hasn't suffered back-to-back years of declines in its nearly two dozen years as a public company. However, let's go over a few of the things that Amazon can do to make its own luck as it tries to bounce back into market fancy in 2015. 1. Profitability Must Return Amazon's net sales rose 18 percent through the first nine months of 2014, and that's impressive for a retail! er that will top $100 billion in sales this new year -- but sales growth is decelerating. The rub for Amazon has been its shrinking profitability as it spends a lot of money on products and service initiatives that won't pay off right away. Amazon can point to the $5.7 billion in operating cash flow that it has generated over its past four quarters -- or even the $1.1 billion in free cash flow that it has cranked out in that time -- but it needs to prove itself worthy of its market cap on the bottom line. CEO Jeff Bezos may brag about having the flexibility to take big bets, but investors are no longer as patient or risk-tolerant as they used to be. 2. Fire Phone Needs a Strong Sophomore Season Amazon's ambitious push into the smartphone market has been a dud. The Fire phone is certainly rich with unique features, but it's been held back by the limitations of not being a true Android device. Yes, the Fire Phone's operating system is built on top of Android's open source platform, but it's a unique system that does not play nice with the growing universe of applications available on Google's (GOOG) (GOOGL) Google Play app store. In short, it's at the mercy of Amazon or app developers porting over their programs to Fire Phone. That's been a deal breaker for many potential owners, and it's the most common complaint in the nega

We think KMB will be perceived as the safest of the multinationals. Its sales outside the US are about 55% of total; this compares to 65%-70% for Procter & Gamble (PG) and Coty (COTY) and! 80%-90% for Colgate (CL), Avon and Tupperware (TUP). In general, its risk to the most volatile currencies is below average (its exposure to Eastern Europe is less than 2% of sales), though it is still translating results in Venezuela (about 3% of sales and profit) at the official rate of 6.3 VEF/$ (the parallel rate just hit 175 VEF/$) and Argentina (also 3% of sales) may devalue again. The cost of important raw materials has started to weaken; as they follow oil's decline they could boost gross margins in 2H15. Of note, polypropylene and natural gas are off 17% 4Q-to-date; pulp prices, while not declining much, seem manageable.

United has historically lagged its major competitors in PRASM growth; 3Q14 could signify a turning point as management forecasts 3Q14 PRASM growth of 2% to 4%, compared to our estimate of 2% and in line with Delta’s (DAL) forecast. We consider this guide a major positive for the company as we have long been concerned about the company’s PRASM deficiencies…

2 Stocks Spiking on Unusual Volume

DELAFIELD, Wis. (Stockpickr) -- Professional traders running mutual funds and hedge funds don't just look at a stock's price moves; they also track big changes in volume activity. Often when above-average volume moves into an equity, it precedes a large spike in volatility.

>>5 Big Stocks to Trade for Big Gains

Major moves in volume can signal unusual activity, such as insider buying or selling -- or buying or selling by "superinvestors."

Unusual volume can also be a major signal that hedge funds and momentum traders are piling into a stock ahead of a catalyst. These types of traders like to get in well before a large spike, so it's always a smart move to monitor unusual volume. That said, remember to combine trend and price action with unusual volume. Put them all together to help you decipher the next big trend for any stock.

>>5 Stocks Poised to Pop on Bullish Earnings

With that in mind, let's take a look at several stocks rising on unusual volume today.

NuStar

NuStar GP Holdings (NSH) owns general partner and limited partner interests in NuStar Energy, which engages in the terminaling and storage of petroleum products, transportation of petroleum products and anhydrous ammonia, and petroleum refining and marketing. This stock closed up 7% at $25.43 in Monday's trading session.

Monday's Volume: 404,000

Three-Month Average Volume: 235,914

Volume % Change: 105%

>>5 Stocks Poised for Breakouts

From a technical perspective, NSH soared higher here and broke out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $24.28 to $24.66 with above-average volume. This stock has been uptrending strong for the last month and change, with shares moving higher from its low of $19.34 to its intraday high of $25.52. During that move, shares of NSH have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in NSH as long as it's trending above Monday's low of $23.50 and then once it sustains a move or close above Monday's high of $25.52 with volume that's near or above 235,914 shares. If we get that move soon, then NSH will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $26.82 to its 200-day at $26.95. Any high-volume move above those levels will then give NSH a chance to tag $30 to $32.

Synergy Resources

Synergy Resources (SYRG) is an exploration-stage company engaged in oil and gas acquisitions, exploration, development and production activities. This stock closed up 2.8% at $11.03 in Monday's trading session.

Monday's Volume: 949,000

Three-Month Average Volume: 589,711

Volume % Change: 75%

>>5 Rocket Stocks to Buy Now

From a technical perspective, SYRG trended up here right above some near-term support at $10.54 and into new 52-week-high territory with above-average volume. This stock has been uptrending strong for the last five months, with shares soaring higher from its low of $6.23 to its intraday high and new 52-week high at $11.40. During that uptrend, shares of SYRG have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in SYRG as long as it's trending above some key near-term support at $10.54 and then once it sustains a move or close above its 52-week high at $11.40 with volume that's near or above 589,711 shares. If we get that move soon, then SYRG will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory above, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that move are $13 to $15.

Top 10 Industrial Disributor Stocks To Own Right Now

Stocks kicked off this week on a positive note as earnings season optimism permeated the markets right from the opening bell on Monday morning. A larger-than-expected increase in consumer credit further bolstered confidence involving the health of the domestic recovery, as the figure came in at $20 billion, compared to last month reading of $11 billion. Looking ahead, all eyes are on the upcoming FOMC minutes this Wednesday as investors are looking for further reassurance that the Fed won prematurely scale back on stimulus efforts .

Our ETF to watch for today is the CurrencyShares British Pound Sterling Trust as it flirts with a key support level ahead of U.K. GDP estimates. Analysts are expecting for the U.K. economy to expand by 0.6% for the second quarter this year, while a surprise in either direction is sure to spark volatile trading for the pound in the currency market.

Chart AnalysisThe British pound has taken a beating thus far on the year as investors have largely favored the U.S. greenback over foreign currencieswhile the European debt crisis has continued to drag on without a definitive resolution in sight. FXB appeared to have hit a bottom in March of this year when it stabilized just below $148 a share; the ETF went onto stage a steep rebound, charging as high as $154 a share in less than two months. As the chart below reveals, however, profit-taking pressures have kept FXB underneath its 200-day moving average (yellow line) on two occasions this year, with its most recent clash with resistance taking place in mid-June.

Top 10 Industrial Disributor Stocks To Own Right Now: Raytheon Company(RTN)

Raytheon Company, together with its subsidiaries, provides electronics, mission systems integration, and other capabilities in the areas of sensing, effects, and command, control, communications, and intelligence systems, as well as mission support services in the United States and internationally. It operates in six segments: Integrated Defense Systems, Intelligence and Information Systems, Missile Systems, Network Centric Systems, Space and Airborne Systems, and Technical Services. The Integrated Defense Systems segment provides integrated naval, air, and missile defense and civil security response solutions. The Intelligence and Information Systems segment offers intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, advanced cyber solutions, weather and environmental solutions, and information-based solutions for law enforcement and homeland security. The Missile Systems segment develops and produces weapon systems, including missiles, smart munitions, close-in weapon systems, projectiles, kinetic kill vehicles, and directed energy effectors for the armed forces of the U.S. and other allied nations. The Network Centric Systems segment provides net-centric mission solutions, including integrated communications systems, command and control systems, combat systems, and operations and precision components for the U.S. federal, state, and local government customers, as well as civil customers. The Space and Airborne Systems segment designs and develops integrated systems and solutions for missions, including intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance; precision engagement; unmanned aerial operations; and space. The Technical Services segment provides training, logistics, engineering, product support, and operational support services for the mission support, homeland security, space, civil aviation, counterproliferation, and counterterrorism markets. Raytheon Company was founded in 1922 and is based in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Monica Gerson]

Raytheon Co (NYSE: RTN) is expected to report its Q3 earnings at $1.33 per share on revenue of $5.81 billion.

McKesson (NYSE: MCK) is projected to report its Q2 earnings at $2.04 per share on revenue of $32.08 billion.

  • [By Vinay Singh] company also provides various security solutions in the United States and internationally.

It has $12.39 per share in cash and a current ratio of 1.57; the company is liquid. Analysts expect $5.44 in EPS for the next fiscal year, and the current stock price is less than 10 times that figure, compared to a peer average of 17 times, suggesting Raytheon is significantly undervalued.

It has an impressive EBITDA margin in the mid-teens and an operating cash flow margin in the mid single digits. It reported strong operating cash flow from continuing operations at $1.0 billion in the fourth quarter and $2.0 billion for the entire year.

Backed by the strong free cash flow, the company should be able to further increase its cash reserve by $7.5 per share next year. ** Also, the share count has fallen from 425 million in fiscal 2008 to less than 330 million at the end of 2012, and considering the management's plans on buybacks, this trend should continue.

Like L-3 Communications, Raytheon faces revenue declines from defense spending cuts. Nevertheless, I think Raytheon can grow its free cash flow at a 2-5% rate for the long-term. Discounting that back, it suggests a fair value of about $66.

    The bottom line

To generate safe and stable income in a volatile market environment, investors should diversify their portfolios with different industries. With impressive cash flows and dividend yields of more than 2.5%, the aforesaid stocks in the Aerospace/Defense Industry offer investors a valuable source of regular income, as well as the potential for long-term capital appreciation.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Seth Jayson]

Gray Television (NYSE: GTN  ) reported earnings on May 2. Here are the numbers you need to know.

    The 10-second takeaway
For the quarter ended March 31 (Q1), Gray Television beat slightly on revenues and beat expectations on earnings per share.

  • [By John Emerson]

My selection of stocks was now almost entirely based upon themes. Instead of seeking out value in out-favor-sectors, I had temporarily diverted to the path of attempting to identify investing themes, although I would only purchase a stock if I deemed it to be a bargain. The major themes I had identified were natural gas related stocks, material stocks such as cement companies, and discounted Chinese growth stocks which made their money by selling their products to Chinese consumers. I also owned significant positions in some other purely American companies which included Casey (CASY) and Gray Television (GTN). Ultimately, Gray Television would turn out to be a colossal failure (more on GTN later).

  • [By Jonas Elmerraji]

Meanwhile, small-cap TV broadcaster Gray Television (GTN) is showing some bullish overtones after tracking sideways for the last month and change. GTN is currently forming a cup-and-handle pattern, a classical bullish setup that triggers on a move through the $9.25 level. Don't put too much thought into the cup-and-handle setup itself; instead, just focus on that breakout level at $9.25.

Whenever you're looking at any technical price pattern, it's critical to think in terms of those buyers and sellers. Triangles, and other pattern names are a good quick way to explain what's going on in a stock, but they're not the reason it's tradable. Instead, it all comes down to supply and demand for shares.

That $9.25 resistance level is a price where there has been an excess of supply of shares; in other words, it's a place where sellers have been more eager to step in and take gains than buyers have been to buy. That's what makes a breakout above it so significant -- the move means that buyers are finally strong enough to absorb all of the excess supply above that price level.

We recently had a chance to interview one of the portfolio managers for the Ranger Equity Bear ETF (NYSEMKT: HDGE), which is an actively managed short selling exchange-traded fund. It acts like a short selling hedge fund but with instant market liquidity features that an ETF structure provides. The ETF’s major short selling position in shares of International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM) was what really piqued our interest. Investors did well who decided to move out of IBM as Big Blue’s stock price has managed to fall by more than $11 per share since then. It turns out that the team here remains a short seller of IBM, and this is indirectly a bet against Warren Buffett.

It is developing energy projects to produce certified synthetic fuels and electric power from carbon-containing materials, such as biomass, waste and fossil resources. Its technologies can produce synthesis gas (syngas) from biomass and waste materials, and convert syngas from its own or other gasification technologies into complex hydrocarbons (the Rentech Process) that are then upgraded into fuels using refining technology that it licenses. In addition to developing projects using these technologies, it is pursuing the licensing of its technologies to developers of projects that are expected to produce fuels and/or power. In May 2011, it acquired majority interest in ClearFuels Technology Inc. In May 2013, Rentech Inc acquired the entire share capital of Fulghum Fibres Inc. In August 2013, Rentech Inc announced that a subsidiary of the Company closed the sale of approximately 450 acres in Natchez, Mississippi to Adams County, Mississippi.

The Rentech Process is a technology based on Fischer-Tropsch (FT) chemistry, which converts syngas that can be produced from a range of biomass, waste and fossil resources into hydrocarbons. These hydrocarbons can be processed and upgraded into synthetic fuels, such as military and commercial jet fuels and low sulfur diesel fuel, as well as waxes and chemicals. Unlike some other alternative transportation fuels, such as ethanol, fuels produced from the Rentech Process can be transported and used in existing infrastructure, including pipelines and engines without blending restrictions. Its technology portfolio also includes the Rentech-SilvaGas biomass gasification technology (the Rentech-SilvaGas Technology), which enables it to offer integrated technologies t! hat can convert biomass and wastes to syngas and into clean fuels and electric power.

The Rentech Process can produce synthetic diesel fuels (RenDiesel1 fuels), which are clean burning having lower emissions of regulated pollutants, such as nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides and particulate matter, than traditional petroleum-based diesel fuels. The Rentech Process also can produce synthetic jet fuel (RenJet fuel), which when blended with conventional jet fuel meet jet fuel specifications for military jet fuel and commercial Jet A and Jet A-1 fuels. It is developing a proposed project near Natchez, Mississippi (the Natchez Project) designed to produce approximately 30,000 barrels per day of synthetic fuels and chemicals and approximately 120 megawatts of power. It is evaluating alternative configurations for the Natchez site, which would initially be smaller in scale. The alternate configurations may use various feed-stocks alone or in various combinations, and include proportions of waxes and chemicals as products.

The Company owns, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Rentech Energy Midwest Corporation (REMC), a nitrogen fertilizer manufacturing plant that uses natural gas as its feedstock to produce syngas and then nitrogen fertilizer products. The products, the Company can produce include renewable synthetic diesel and jet fuels, naphtha and power from biomass resources; synthetic diesel and jet fuels, naphtha and power from fossil or fossil and biomass resources, and paraffinic waxes, solvents and specialty chemicals.
